In a heartbreaking incident on December 22, 2021, a surveyor tragically lost his life at the outer anchorage of Payra port in Bangladesh due to a fall from the bulk carrier 'Neraida.' The 65-year-old surveyor had been conducting an inspection of a coal cargo intended for delivery to a nearby power plant. After finishing his assessment, he began his descent onto a lighter vessel that was stationed next to the 'Neraida,' which had previously transported him to the anchorage. Unfortunately, as he was making his way down, he slipped and plunged into the waters below. Although immediate rescue efforts were initiated and he was rushed to a local hospital, he was later pronounced dead. This incident underscores the inherent risks faced by maritime professionals during routine operations.
