What Crew Members Say About Ye42-Anna-Elizabeth

On September 5, 2013, the fishing trawler 'Anna Elizabeth' (IMO: YE 42) encountered a serious emergency when a fire ignited in its engine room while it was situated north of Ameland close to Nes. The vessel's crew of five acted swiftly by sealing all air inlets and dropping anchor before taking refuge at the bow of the ship. The Dutch Coastguard was alerted to the situation, prompting a rapid response from KNRM lifeboats. The 'Maria Hofker' from Nes Ameland was the first on the scene, successfully evacuating four crew members from the burning vessel while one lifeboat crew member boarded the 'Anna Elizabeth' to assist the captain. As the 'Maria Hofker' returned to shore, it brought back five firefighters for an assessment of the blaze. Additional support arrived with the 'Anna Margaretha' and 'Frans Hogewind' along with salvage tugs 'Hurricane' and 'Vigiland', all prepared to assist in the emergency. Upon discovering that the fire had been extinguished, the four evacuated crew members were returned to their ship, and it was decided that the 'Hurricane' would tow the 'Anna Elizabeth' back to Harlingen for further inspection. The firefighting team was later taken back to Ameland aboard the 'Anna Margaretha'. The investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing.
