In a critical lifeline operation, the U.S. Coast Guard successfully medevaced a 39-year-old crew member from the tanker 'Valtamed' on July 2, 2013. The incident unfolded approximately 170 miles east of Atlantic City when the vessel contacted Coast Guard watchstanders around 11:15 a.m., reporting that a crew member had been found unconscious in his cabin and required urgent medical assistance. Responding promptly, watchstanders deployed an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, along with an HC-130 Hercules aircraft crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C. The helicopter crew executed an efficient hoisting operation to rescue the man, who was then flown back to the air station where emergency medical services were ready to provide further care.
