On July 10, 2021, a maritime incident unfolded in the Malacca Strait, specifically off Melaka, between Singapore and Port Dickson, approximately 14.1 nautical miles southwest of the Sungai Muar estuary. The chemical tanker 'Zephyr Lumos', which was navigating towards Suez from Singapore, collided with the bulk carrier 'Galapagos' (IMO: 9473169), bound from Gladstone to Visakhapatnam. During this unfortunate event, the 'Galapagos' suffered a steering system malfunction, causing it to veer right as 'Zephyr Lumos' was attempting to overtake. This maneuver resulted in the 'Galapagos' being struck on its starboard side by the bow of 'Zephyr Lumos', inflicting significant damage.
