Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Celebrates UASC Umm Qasr as 'Green Ship of the Year'
In an exciting announcement, Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI), part of the renowned Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) group, proudly revealed that the UASC Umm Qasr, a state-of-the-art 9,000 TEU containership, has been honored with the prestigious title of 'Green Ship of the Year' by the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore. This eco-friendly vessel, which spans 300 meters in length, 24.8 meters in height, and 48.2 meters in width, was officially delivered to Asiatic Lloyd, a Singapore-based company, on July 31, 2014. United Arab Shipping Company Welcomes New 9,034-TEU Vessel from Asiatic Lloyd
The United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) has secured a charter agreement for a state-of-the-art 9,034 TEU vessel from Singapore's non-operating owner, Asiatic Lloyd. The neopanamax containership, named Asiatic Spring, was recently handed over by Hyundai Samho shipyard and is currently moored in Busan, where it awaits its new operational deployment this October, according to Alphaliner. UASC plans to incorporate this vessel into the FE-West Med AMC 1/AMX 1 service, which is operated in partnership with China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL). This step is part of UASC's strategy to enhance service capabilities by upgrading to ships with a capacity of 9,000-9,500 TEU, replacing the existing fleet of 6,918 TEU units that will be transitioned to serve the Indian subcontinent and MEUSEC Mina routes. This strategic move comes ahead of the anticipated Ocean Three alliance, a collaboration among CMA CGM, CSCL, and UASC, aimed at optimizing services for the FE-Europe and FE-North America shipping lanes.
