This mechanical failure resulted in the ship's rudder also becoming inoperable, causing the 'A La Marine' to drift towards the port side. The vessel ultimately collided with pilings before grounding. Following the allision, the Kiel Canal was temporarily closed to all shipping traffic between Audorf and Breiholz. Fortunately, at 02:40 a.m., the 'A La Marine' was able to refloat using its own power and continued its journey to Brunsbüttel, where it docked at the Navy Pilings to undergo necessary surveys. Following this, on the morning of January 9, the tug 'Wulf 3' retrieved another 40-foot container from the sea and transported it to Cuxport in Cuxhaven.
