In the early hours of August 10, 2014, at approximately 4:20 AM, the river cruise vessel 'A Rosa Mia' encountered a significant mishap while navigating the Danube. The ship, traveling from Budapest to Passau, was involved in an allision with a pedestrian bridge spanning the Jochenstein lock. The incident occurred when the Ukrainian captain inadvertently left the wheelhouse raised upon exiting the lock, resulting in the bridge striking the structure. Following the allision, the ship was rendered disabled and secured along the left riverbank outside of the navigable fairway. Plans were initiated to tow the vessel to Linz for much-needed repairs. Fortunately, all 192 passengers onboard were unharmed and subsequently transported to Passau by bus. During the repair efforts, the lock was temporarily closed.
