On January 5, 2022, a dramatic medical emergency unfolded aboard the 'Chem Jupiter', a tanker ship traveling from Baltimore. As the vessel navigated the waters of Chesapeake Bay near Kent Island, a crew member suddenly required urgent medical assistance. Around 8:45 a.m., the U.S. Coast Guard-Sector Maryland promptly reached out to SYSCOM, requesting support from the Maryland State Police (MSP) for an aerial extraction. Due to the severity of the crew member’s condition, transferring to a smaller Coast Guard vessel was not feasible.
