Maritime authorities have launched an extensive search and rescue operation involving the bulk carrier 'Anthia' to locate eight crew members of the fishing vessel 'Los Delfines', which has been missing since the afternoon of April 30, 2023. After departing from La Ensenada, 'Los Delfines' was reported as having encountered difficulties, as confirmed by relatives of one of its crew members. These family members received an emergency call via satellite phone, which was later triangulated to a position near 11° 33.61'N, 062° 47.77'W—approximately 22 nautical miles northeast of the Los Testigos archipelago. According to reports, the crew were left adrift, relying on improvised flotation devices and the Iridium satellite phone. In response, the Carúpano Coast Guard Main Station initiated a sweep of the area, deploying the patrol vessel 'ESGLT-005' alongside the bulk carrier 'Anthia'. Additionally, coastal surveillance ships AB 'Yavire' and AB 'Alcaravan' have been mobilized to assist in the search efforts. As of May 1, 2023, there have been no sightings of the missing crew members.
