Working Conditions Aboard the Adam-a

On the evening of January 4, 2020, the bulk carrier 'Amal T' collided with an oncoming cargo vessel while navigating into the port of Qinzhou. At the time of the accident, 'Amal T' was carrying 27.465 tons of manganese ore when it sustained significant damage, resulting in a hull breach at the port side foreship in the cargo hold. The rapid ingress of water put the vessel at imminent risk of sinking, threatening to obstruct the fairway. To avert a maritime disaster, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) sprang into action, deploying tugs and salvors to stabilize the ship. As a precaution, 'Amal T' was intentionally grounded to prevent further sinking. Subsequently, part of the cargo was lightered to allow access to the damaged area. Once the breach was successfully patched up, the vessel was safely floated off and brought back to port, where it was berthed on January 12 at 10:40 a.m.
