In a troubling escalation of hostilities, three commercial vessels, including two bulk carriers and one container ship, were subjected to Houthi assaults in the southern Red Sea near the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait on December 3, 2023. Another ship, the 'AOM Sophie II', making its way from the USA and whose AIS records were last noted in the Caribbean Sea on November 26, issued a distress call after being hit by a missile at 4:30 p.m. Fortunately, the destroyer 'Carney' reported no significant damage to this vessel as well. En route, the 'Carney' successfully intercepted yet another UAV that approached its direction during the operation.
