Genco Explorer Strikes Fairway Buoy in Weser Estuary Incident
On December 11, 2014, the bulk carrier Genco Explorer, sailing from Paquemines Parish Port, collided with fairway buoy 3a, situated north of Wangerooge. The incident occurred as the vessel was en route to rendezvous with a pilot vessel in the challenging conditions of the Weser estuary. As the storm intensified, the crew attempted a tight maneuver to reach the pilot vessel in time, resulting in the unfortunate contact with the buoy. The exact extent of the damage to the buoy remains unclear. Authorities imposed a fine of €150 on the ship's master in response to the incident. Following the investigation led by the Police Brake, the Genco Explorer departed Brake bound for Bremen on December 13, 2014, at 11:25 p.m.
