Working Conditions Aboard the Aristea

On November 17, 2018, the oil tanker 'Aristea', carrying a substantial 99,950 tonnes of crude oil, encountered difficulties approximately 23 nautical miles southwest of the Isle of Wight. With 22 crew members onboard, the vessel, which was en route from Primorsk, experienced mechanical failures that rendered it not under command at around 01:20 a.m., positioned at latitude 50° 15' 15"N and longitude 001° 38' 40"W. Drifted at a speed of three knots, the ship was a significant distance—27.2 miles—from Yarmouth. Fortunately, by 11:40 a.m., the crew successfully executed repairs autonomously and without the aid of a tugboat. Following the fixes, the 'Aristea' resumed its intended course, continuing its journey across the open seas.
