Product Tanker ARSLAND Grounded on the River Thames but Quickly Refloated
On August 16, 2023, around 1800 UTC, the product tanker ARSLAND encountered trouble while navigating the River Thames in the UK. The vessel, en route from South Stifford to Hamburg, ran aground at South Stifford. Fortunately, swift action from Svitzer tugs allowed the tanker to be refloated within approximately one hour after grounding. Thankfully, there were no damages or leaks reported. After being refloated, the ARSLAND was safely transported to Tilbury, where it moored later that evening. As of 1200 UTC on August 17, the tanker remains securely berthed at Tilbury. Preliminary AIS tracking indicates that the grounding was likely a result of mechanical failure. It is speculated that the vessel may still be in Tilbury for necessary repairs and inspections.
