China Halts Crew Changes Amid COVID-19 Outbreaks on Vessels
In a significant move to curb the spread of COVID-19, China's Ministry of Transport has suspended crew change operations for vessels managed by two shipping companies following confirmed coronavirus infections among their crews. Health inspectors discovered 15 crew members aboard the 'Omicron Sky' and 21 on the 'Asia Spring' tested positive for the virus during recent port inspections. The affected vessels are under the management of Omicron Ship Management and Dia Yuan International Shipping. Under the newly enforced crew change policy, all vessels operated by these two companies will experience a temporary halt on crew changes for a duration of 30 days due to deficiencies in their epidemic control measures. This decision will undergo reassessment by Chinese health authorities, determining when, or if, the companies can resume normal crew operations. The Ministry of Transport lists Omicron Ship Management as overseeing six vessels, while Dia Yuan International Shipping manages a total of 17. As of February 11, 2021, the 'Omicron Sky' was docked in Zhoushan, and the 'Asia Spring' departed Yingkou for Adang Bay on January 18.
