Tragic Loss at Sea: Captain Rakesh Ranjan Singh Passes Away
Rakesh Ranjan Singh, a 43-year-old ship captain from Ranchi, Jharkhand, has tragically passed away following a heart attack on March 18, 2026. Singh was at the helm of the 'ASP Avana', which has been anchored at coordinates 25° 30' N 054° 57' E, approximately 14 nautical miles from the Strait of Hormuz, since February 28. The ship has remained in place due to a halt in regional maritime operations resulting from the escalating conflict in the West Asia and Middle East regions. In light of this unfortunate incident, Singh’s family has reached out to the Indian government for urgent assistance. His son, Pravar Singh, has formally requested expedited repatriation of his father's remains from the mortuary at Sheikh Rashid Hospital in Dubai, where the captain's body is currently being held under the watch of port police. Additionally, Pravar has asked for financial support for their family, which relies entirely on the income generated by the late captain.
