On September 4, 2019, a critical medical evacuation took place off the coast of Galveston, Texas, involving the crude oil tanker 'Pacific Jewels,' located approximately 20 miles offshore. The US Coast Guard's Sector Houston-Galveston quickly responded to a distress call from the vessel’s crew, reporting that a crew member had sustained a serious back injury and urgently required medical attention. After receiving the alert, watchstanders consulted with the on-duty flight surgeon, who promptly recommended the necessary medevac. A skilled crew from Coast Guard Air Station Houston was dispatched aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter to conduct the operation.
