Detention of 'Tidal Rhythm' in Mumbai Due to Serious Deficiencies
The vessel formerly known as 'Asphalt Maris', which was rebranded as 'Tidal Rhythm' on July 28, 2025, faced a significant setback during a Port State Control (PSC) inspection in Mumbai on August 14, 2025. Inspectors uncovered a total of 25 deficiencies, with 17 of these categorized as serious enough to warrant the ship's detention. Key issues identified included: 1) Invalid certificates for the master and officers; 2) Non-compliance of inflatable liferafts with required standards; 3) Inoperative emergency fire pump and associated piping; 4) Non-functional emergency generator; 5) Oil filtering equipment that did not meet requirements; 6) Main propulsion engine found to be inadequate; 7) Fire protection systems not properly maintained; 8) Deficiencies in firefighting equipment; 9) Scuppers and discharges that did not conform to safety standards; 10) Ventilators, air pipes, and casings failing to meet regulations; 11) Non-compliant magnetic compass; 12) Deficient lighting in working spaces; 13) Unsatisfactory communication means between the safety centre and other locations; 14) Electrical systems identified as unsafe; 15) Improperly marked freeboard; 16) Non-compliance in cargo and other hatchways; 17) ISM certificate not in order. Following the rectification of these issues, 'Tidal Rhythm' was released on the same day and set sail for Jebel Ali, arriving there on August 29.
