Fire Breaks Out on Fishing Vessel 'Bagration' Near Shikotan Island
On the morning of September 21, 2014, a significant fire erupted aboard the fishing vessel 'Bagration', which was carrying a crew of 51, approximately 40 nautical miles southeast of Shikotan Island in the Kuril Archipelago. The blaze was ignited by corrugated packaging materials. In a display of timely assistance, the fish factory vessel 'Kapitan Efremov' (IMO: 8897588) arrived on the scene to aid the crew in combating the fire. By September 22 at 9 a.m., the fire was successfully brought under control. Subsequently, the 'Bagration' was able to navigate under its own power towards the Yuzhno-Kurilsk roads off Kunashir Island, before continuing its journey to Nakhodka for necessary repairs.
