On October 2, 2023, the U.S. Coast Guard successfully conducted a medevac operation for a 50-year-old man aboard the crane vessel 'Balder,' located roughly 35 miles south of Grand Isle, Louisiana. The emergency response began when Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a distress call at approximately 4:58 a.m. from the vessel’s operating manager, who reported that a crew member was suffering from chest pains. In response, watchstanders promptly dispatched a team from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans, including an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew. Upon arrival at the scene, the aircrew hoisted the man safely aboard the helicopter and transported him to the University Medical Center in New Orleans, where he was greeted by emergency medical services. In a landmark decision, Total E&P Angola has greenlighted a $16 billion investment for the Kaombo project, leading to Technip and Heerema Marine Contractors securing the largest SURF (subsea, umbilical, riser, flowline) contract in history, valued at around USD $3.5 billion. This ambitious project will take place in Block 32, situated offshore Angola at impressive depths nearing 2,000 meters. Technip will handle approximately 55% of the work, while Heerema will take on 45%. To facilitate operations, Heerema is set to deploy the Deep Water Construction vessel, Balder, which will be responsible for the installation of all STTRs and the 18”/12” pipe-in-pipe production pipelines. Meanwhile, Technip's Deep Blue will take charge of the remaining pipeline installations. Additional support will be provided by Technip’s fleet for the installation of flexibles and umbilicals, ensuring a comprehensive approach to construction. The project is on track for completion in the first half of 2018.
