Swedish Coast Guard Intercepts Oil Spill Linked to Banglar Agragoti
On November 13, 2023, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a Swedish Coast Guard surveillance aircraft detected an oil spill near Falsterbo, leading to the identification of the culprit vessel, 'Banglar Agragoti'. The tanker was reported to be executing tank cleaning operations southwest of Falsterbo, close to coordinates 55 19 00 N, 012 39 57 E, when the incident occurred. The spill, covering an area of roughly eight square kilometers, raised immediate concerns for marine pollution. In response, the aircraft deployed a sampling buoy into the water, which, upon analysis, revealed the presence of palm oil. A subsequent examination of reference samples collected when the vessel docked at Gothenburg on November 14 confirmed the match. Following a thorough investigation, the Master of the 'Banglar Agragoti' faced legal repercussions, resulting in a penalty of 50 daily fines, totaling approximately 3,580 USD. After complying with the inquiry, the ship departed Gothenburg the same day, continuing its voyage toward Amsterdam, where it arrived and anchored at IJmuiden on November 20.
