On the evening of July 25, 2018, between 9:15 PM and 9:45 PM, an unexpected shift in wind direction and speed created tumultuous conditions in Novorossiysk, resulting in four vessels losing their moorings. The wind, which changed from a north to a southeast direction, escalated to speeds of 24-25 meters per second, leading to significant upheaval at the port. Among the affected ships was the cargo m/v "Serenada," which broke its stern moorings and collided with berth no.39. The situation worsened for the "Barbaros 3," which, despite dropping both anchors, drifted and struck floating dock No. 3 at the Novorossiysk Ship Repair Yard. Additionally, the bulk carrier "Lion" suffered from broken stern moorings, ultimately alliding with berth no.5. Meanwhile, the cargo m/v "Storm" dragged anchor, moving beyond anchorage limits and grounding itself by the stern; however, it successfully refloated on its own and returned to its designated anchorage. Fortunately, all damages incurred by the vessels and port facilities were deemed non-serious.
