Bankruptcy Strikes Sealg as 'Basen' Remains Docked After Collision

Feb 11, 2025 13:18

As of February 11, 2025, the cargo vessel 'Basen' remains stuck at the quay in Leirvik following a collision with a 17-foot pleasure boat near Rosendal on June 25, 2024. The incident triggered 27 serious orders from the Norwegian Maritime Directorate, a response well above the typical rate. Although the vessel has been released, it currently lacks the necessary certificates for navigation. The Norwegian Maritime Directorate has confirmed that the owning company, Sealg, based in Førde, has not sought a five-year renewal and has subsequently allowed its shipping certificate to lapse. Sealg, which employed 16 individuals and owned two older vessels, including the 'Vestfrakt', has now entered bankruptcy. The process began when an employee initiated bankruptcy proceedings against the company over a claim of 134,000 Norwegian crowns. On the very day the petition was filed, Sealg attempted to self-file for bankruptcy; however, this was denied due to the pending claim. The formal bankruptcy application will be addressed in the Sogn og Fjordane District Court in early March.
