On February 28, 2025, at approximately 7 a.m., a crew member aboard the chemical tanker 'Basset' sustained injuries during an unlawful boarding incident in the Singapore Strait. The vessel was traveling from Tanjung Pelepas to Pengerang when it came under attack by a group of intruders, armed with what appeared to be gun-like objects, approximately 3.2 nautical miles from the Takong Kecil Lighthouse, positioned at 1° 8' N 103° 45.68' E. The injured crew member, a 29-year-old Indian national, was transported to a local hospital and is receiving medical attention while conscious. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) responded promptly by notifying relevant authorities of the incident, which occurred outside Singapore's territorial waters. During the breach, the assailants made off with engine spares from the vessel. Thankfully, all other crew members have been safely accounted for. In response to the threat, the MPA issued advisories to nearby vessels, urging them to maintain heightened vigilance. Additionally, the Singapore Police Coast Guard (PCG) and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) were deployed to provide assistance to the 'Basset' crew following the incident.
