The Bergen-Viking: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

Bergen Tankers AS, based in Norway, is set to revolutionize its operations by converting the Lloyd’s Register-classed chemical and product tanker, Bergen Viking. This transformation will involve the replacement of the existing diesel engines with two state-of-the-art Bergen C26:33L6AG engines powered by LNG. The ambitious upgrade also entails significant enhancements, including the installation of an LNG fuel containment system, ACON LNG fuel, and a comprehensive safety control system, complying with all necessary Class and National engineering standards, as detailed in the company’s press release. The overhaul process will see the removal of four outdated diesel generating sets and the integration of two new, environmentally friendly natural gas (NG) fueled generating sets, which will be supplied by Bergen Engines AS. Furthermore, two IMO type C LNG tanks, each with a capacity of 150 m3, will be strategically positioned on the open deck to facilitate the new fuel system. Croon Marine & Offshore has been awarded the contract for enhancing the Machinery Control and Monitoring and Power Management System on the Bergen Viking. The delivery of the upgraded system is scheduled for 2014, with execution of the conversion planned for March 2015. This pivotal upgrade marks a significant step towards more sustainable shipping practices in the industry.
