What Crew Members Say About Betty-K-Vi

On November 7, 2019, the cargo vessel 'Betty K VI' experienced a grounding incident in Government Cut near Fisher Island, Miami, while setting sail for Nassau. The United States Coast Guard in Miami promptly responded after receiving an alert around 5 p.m. The ship lost propulsion and ran aground on a barrier island located three miles off the coast of South Florida. Following the grounding, the watchstanders issued a safety marine information broadcast to alert nearby vessels. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, nor was there any pollution or threats to navigation. However, prior to the grounding, the 'Betty K VI' struck and caused damage to some pilings and a wooden pier. After several hours, two tugboats successfully refloated the vessel, which was subsequently returned to port for further investigation.
