On June 15, 2016, an unfortunate incident involving a fuel transfer operation led to the spillage of approximately 300 gallons of diesel into Gulfport Harbor, Mississippi. The spill happened while transferring fuel from a barge to the vessel identified as 'LV North Ocean 105'. Early in the morning, around 5 a.m., the situation was reported to the US Coast Guard Sector Mobile by watchstanders, indicating that nearly 250 gallons of diesel had already contaminated the harbor waters. In response, a comprehensive cleanup operation commenced, lasting over eight hours as local authorities worked diligently to address the situation. The USCG collaborated closely with the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and a specialized Oil Response Company, all committed to mitigating the environmental impact of the spill. To contain the diesel and protect the harbor's ecosystem, the Oil Response Company deployed a remarkable 1,000 feet of containment boom around the affected vessel.
