On July 21, 2015, a concerning incident unfolded aboard the 'Bomar Mercury' as seven crew members reported feeling unwell while the vessel was moored to a buoy at the Geul Port of Rotterdam. The situation arose when two crew members, engaged in cleaning a tank, inadvertently came into contact with Aniline, a highly toxic substance, resulting in serious injuries. Alongside them, two additional crew members who were nearby also exhibited symptoms of distress. To ensure their safety, emergency services promptly deployed boats to retrieve these individuals from the vessel. On the scene, a significant response was mobilized, including six ambulances and two emergency vehicles, as four of the affected crew members were transported to specialized medical facilities located in Antwerp, Amsterdam, and Goes. Furthermore, two crew members were airlifted by helicopter to a hospital in Amsterdam for urgent care. As night fell, three more crew members began to display health issues, prompting another call for emergency assistance. At that point, one of the ambulances was en route from Antwerp. An air ambulance landed near Old Maas Way, while four ambulances and local fire brigade services quickly arrived at the location. A police boat transported the new patients ashore, where they each underwent assessment in ambulances. Ultimately, one required hospitalization, while the other two were cleared for discharge. On August 1st, North Sea Tankers (NST) welcomed the 7,003 dwt 'Bomar Mercury' into its North West European pool fleet, known as V6. This strategic addition brings the total number of vessels in the pool to seven, enhancing NST's capacity and operational flexibility. Looking ahead, NST has expressed its intention to grow the fleet further by incorporating additional quality vessels. Furthermore, pool members and management have decided to revise the pool criteria to accommodate vessels with a deadweight that slightly exceeds or falls short of the original range of 5,500 to 6,500 dwt.
