Bordeira Ship Details and Seafarer Feedback

In a heartbreaking incident on May 4, 2021, a crew member of the tanker 'Bordeira' lost his life after a fall into the Bay of Algeciras. The accident occurred early in the morning while the ship was in the process of a crew change, situated just outside the anchorage of the Algeciras port. One of the three crew members preparing to disembark fell overboard and became entangled in the ship's ladder. Immediately alerted, Salvamento Marítimo received a call at 1:55 a.m. from the support vessel 'Picasso I', prompting the deployment of the SAR boat 'Salvamar Denébola' alongside the auxiliary vessel 'Luz de Mar' to the emergency site. Additionally, the Getares pilot boat from the port of Algeciras responded to the call and was instrumental in recovering the man. A brave crew member from the pilot boat entered the water to free him from the ladder. Although he was brought back to the Saladillo dock conscious, he showed signs of hypothermia. Emergency services transported him by ambulance to Punta Europa hospital in Algeciras, where sadly, he was pronounced dead. Following the incident, the 'Bordeira' has docked at the port for thorough inspections and investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
