Emergency Medical Evacuation of Crew Member Near Bermuda
A crew member aboard the oil tanker 'Botafogo,' which was making its way from Gibraltar to Houston, faced a medical emergency suspected to be appendicitis. The Royal Bermuda Rescue Coordination Center (RCC Bermuda) was alerted via an email from the vessel regarding the urgent situation. Although the ship was not scheduled to arrive in Bermuda until February 15, 2020, in the afternoon, the RCC Bermuda collaborated with RCC Norfolk to facilitate a rapid response. As a result, the decision was made for the vessel to proceed to Bermuda, where the ailing crew member was successfully transferred to an ambulance at Ordnance Island by a pilot boat at approximately 3 p.m.
