In a strategic move to enhance its operational capabilities, Odfjell has finalized a deal to acquire the MT Bow Engineer, a sophisticated chemical tanker boasting a deadweight tonnage of 30,086 DWT and classified under IMO II/III standards. Constructed in 2006 by Kitanihon Shipbuilding CO LTD in Japan, this vessel features 28 state-of-the-art stainless steel cargo tanks. According to the company’s official announcement, the transfer of ownership is set for early May 2024. MT Bow Engineer has been on a time charter with Odfjell since its delivery, but rather than extending the existing five-year charter agreement, Odfjell has negotiated with its current owner, Saito Shipping, to directly purchase the ship.

On September 14, 2011, a maritime incident occurred involving the Odfjell products tanker, BOW ENGINEER (IMO: 9317860), and the Philippines-flagged bulk carrier, ZUNI PRINCESS. Both vessels sustained damage as a result of the collision, underscoring the ongoing challenges of navigation and safety in busy shipping lanes.
