On December 6, 2017, the tanker 'Fetekoz' encountered operational difficulties in the Sargasso Sea while traveling from Savannah to Bayonne, with an initial estimated arrival date of December 15. The tugboat 'Red Sea Fos' (IMO: 8102529), after being contracted for the salvage operation, departed from Funchal on the same day. The tug reached the distressed vessel positioned at 29° 24'N, 053° 33'W on December 13 at 2 p.m. Towage towards Madeira commenced later that afternoon, with an expected arrival date around December 18.
