On April 18, 2022, a heroic rescue operation unfolded when a U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew medevacked a German couple from the 32-foot sailing yacht 'Uplace'. This emergency took place about 110 miles north of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. The rescue was initiated following a distress call received at 9:45 p.m. on April 16, 2022, from the International Emergency Response Coordination Center, seeking assistance for the master of the 'Uplace' who had suffered a leg injury. Coast Guard watchstanders at Sector San Juan promptly executed an Emergency Group Call (EGC) to alert nearby maritime traffic. Responding to this EGC was the 'BW Lilac', a vessel on its route from Huelva, Spain, to the USA, which altered its course to assist the distressed yacht. Arriving on scene amidst challenging 12-foot seas, approximately 340 nautical miles from Puerto Rico, the 'BW Lilac' successfully rescued the couple and reported that the woman was suffering from a broken wrist. The Jayhawk aircrew then rendezvoused with the 'BW Lilac', hoisting both of the injured yacht crew members aboard their helicopter. They were subsequently airlifted to Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Regional Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where they were met by emergency medical personnel and transferred to the Centro Medico Hospital for further treatment.
