BW Wren Tanker Detained in Guaymas Amid Cargo Investigations
The tanker BW Wren is currently docked at the port of Guaymas as federal authorities initiate investigations and cargo sampling to determine the nature of its load. The vessel arrived at the Pemex terminal in Guaymas on October 1, 2025, after departing from La Paz, Baja California. During its stay in La Paz, theBW Wren offloaded gasoline reportedly sourced from Taiwan. It declared an impressive total of 148,000 tons of mixed gasoline, which includes 80,000 tons of regular and 30,000 tons of premium gasoline, even though the ship has a total capacity of over 51 tons. The tanker began its journey in New Orleans, Louisiana, on September 8, 2025, and made significant stops, including a passage through the Panama Canal and a brief anchorage off Manzanillo, Colima. Subsequent port visits included the Pemex terminals in both Topolobampo and Mazatlán. On September 27, 2025, the BW Wren arrived in La Paz, where it remained for 48 hours before its expedited arrival in Guaymas, a move requested by Navecopa, the shipping agency involved in the operation. It’s noteworthy that Navecopa is associated with Tramitadora del PacÃfico, which has been implicated in a criminal investigation by the Attorney General's Office for purported fuel smuggling activities and presently owes 130 million pesos to the National Port System Administration (Asipona).
