SeaRiver Maritime Unveils 'Eagle Bay': Latest US-Flagged Crude Oil Tanker

Jan 13, 2015 09:43

On January 12, 2023, SeaRiver Maritime proudly christened its newest U.S.-flagged crude oil tanker, the Eagle Bay, at the Aker Philadelphia Shipyard. This state-of-the-art vessel is set to transport Alaskan crude oil to the U.S. West Coast, marking a significant milestone in maritime logistics. The Eagle Bay is the second tanker of its kind constructed at the shipyard for ExxonMobil's affiliate, following the successful delivery of its sister ship, the Liberty Bay, in June. Both the Eagle Bay and Liberty Bay represent the largest tankers ever built at Aker Philadelphia and are designed to replace older double-hull tankers currently operating the Alaska-West Coast route. Capable of transporting up to 800,000 barrels of oil, these tankers are powered by a cutting-edge six-cylinder MAN B&W 6S60MC-C8.2 Tier 2 engine. This engine will utilize ultra-low sulfur fuel oil, ensuring compliance with emissions requirements in emission control areas (ECAs). ExxonMobil has reported that these two vessels were acquired at a collective cost of $400 million, contributing to the creation of over 1,200 jobs in the Philadelphia area. The launch of the Eagle Bay marks a pivotal advancement in the maritime sector, combining efficient design and environmental responsibility.
