Accident on Houston Ship Channel: Container Ship and Chemical Tanker Collide

On March 5, 2015, a maritime incident unfolded on the Houston Ship Channel when the container vessel m/v 'Monte Alegre', arriving from Altamira, collided with the chemical tanker 'Chembulk Houston'. The collision occurred at approximately 1:55 PM, just south of Eagle Point near San Leon, Texas. As a result of the incident, authorities closed the Houston Ship Channel between buoys 26 and 42 until 3:00 PM to ensure the safety of navigation. Fortunately, both vessels sustained only minor damages. At the time of the collision, they were making their way towards port, and following the incident, each ship successfully docked at their respective terminals. The 'Monte Alegre' arrived at Barbours Cut Terminal at 11:40 PM, while the 'Chembulk Houston', which had recently departed from Ilha da Conceicao in Rio de Janeiro, reached Morgans Point Pier at 11:45 PM.
