On December 16, 2024, during a Foreign Affairs Council meeting, the European Union unveiled its latest sanctions package, which significantly expands its efforts against entities supporting Russia in its ongoing military operations. A total of 52 vessels, including the notable 'Cassiopeia', have been added to the EU's sanctions list, bringing the total number of sanctioned vessels to 79. These vessels are primarily involved in activities aimed at bypassing the oil price cap enforced by Western nations, facilitating arms deliveries, and transporting illegally acquired grain. Additionally, this sanctions package addresses a broader spectrum of individuals and entities, targeting 54 individuals and 30 organizations that are believed to reinforce Russia’s military campaign. Notably, the measures also extend to specific individuals and organizations in China and North Korea, identified as suppliers of dual-use materials critical for military enhancement. Among those named are two senior officials from North Korea as well as seven individuals and companies from China. The strategic intent behind these sanctions is to raise the operational costs for Russia by restricting its access to EU ports and maritime services, thereby hampering its military logistics.

In a significant development for the maritime sector, a new charter has been successfully finalized with ST Shipping. The deal, valued at $19,500 per day, will remain in effect for a duration of one year, solidifying ST Shipping's operational capabilities for the upcoming term.
