Working Conditions Aboard the Carnival-Pride

Over the weekend of February 9, 2026, several vessels within the Carnival Cruise Line fleet faced significant IT system failures, leading to embarkation delays and service disruptions across multiple ships. On the evening of February 8, at least seven ships were forced to remain in port beyond their scheduled departure times. The affected vessels included 'Carnival Celebration', 'Carnival Pride', 'Carnival Sunshine', 'Carnival Venezia', 'Carnival Spirit', 'Carnival Liberty', and 'Carnival Panorama'. Notably, the 'Carnival Celebration', which was set to depart from Miami at 3:30 p.m. for a week-long Caribbean cruise, ultimately left the dock nearly eight hours late at approximately 1:00 a.m. This unprecedented technical issue has raised concerns among passengers and the cruise line regarding operational reliability and guest experiences.

In a troubling incident aboard the Carnival Pride, four crew members have been apprehended by U.S. immigration officials in Baltimore. On September 7, 2025, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers boarded the vessel while it was docked, acting on credible intelligence concerning the possession of child sexual exploitation materials by certain crew members. After thorough interviews, authorities confirmed that the four individuals, consisting of three Filipino nationals and one Indonesian, had not only received but also viewed the disturbing materials in question. Consequently, CBP revoked their shore passes, leading to the removal of these individuals from the country. Advocacy groups have since raised concerns about their detention, claiming that the crew members were deported without the opportunity for due process, highlighting serious implications for maritime employment regulations and international human rights standards.
