They had set sail on May 14 with another couple, hailing from Germany and Italy. Unfortunately, their trip turned perilous when their engine failed and their mast broke due to severe weather conditions, leaving them adrift on the open water at night. In a timely response, the Carnival Splendor located the LA Vita and executed a successful rescue operation, reaching the stranded sailors within five hours. Upon retrieval, they were provided with essential provisions including food, water, and medical assistance. On the night of December 15, 2022, a medical emergency unfolded on the 'Carnival Splendor' as an ill passenger required urgent medevac while the cruise vessel was navigating off the coast of Seal Rocks, approximately 30 kilometers from land on its journey from Sydney to Moreton.
