On March 26, 2023, a dramatic maritime rescue unfolded 386 miles off the coast of Alabama when the US Coast Guard, aided by the cruise ship 'Carnival Valor', successfully saved three boaters from a sinking vessel. The 44-foot recreational craft, named 'Snail Mail', triggered an emergency beacon (EPIRB) at 7:22 a.m., prompting a swift response from Coast Guard District Eight. Watchstanders quickly reached out to the vessel's owner, who was back on shore yet in communication with the stranded crew via a SPOT GPS device. It was confirmed that the 'Snail Mail' was taking on water and in urgent need of assistance.
