Cativera Detained in Novorossiysk for Major Safety Violations

Mar 28, 2025 09:49

On March 19, 2025, the cargo ship 'Cativera' faced detention in Novorossiysk due to a staggering 20 identified deficiencies, with 17 categorized as severe enough to warrant action. Key issues flagged during the inspection included significant lapses in safety protocols pertaining to navigation and machinery. Notably, the vessel lacked a voyage or passage plan, and was missing crucial electronic charts. Furthermore, the compass correction log was not maintained as required, and several nautical publications were reported as expired. Auxiliary machinery also did not meet standards, raising concerns about operational safety. Additionally, the inspection revealed unacceptable labor conditions, including inadequate ropes and wires, and unsafe access to hazardous areas. Electrical systems were also found deficient, failing to comply with safety requirements, specifically in emergency lighting and power sources. Other faults included an inoperative emergency generator, issues with radio communications, and inadequate maintenance of water and weather-tight areas of the vessel. The ISM (International Safety Management) certificate was also reported as not up to standard. The 'Cativera' was subsequently released from detention on March 26 and moved to the Novorossiysk anchorage. The vessel is now scheduled to head to Djibouti, with an estimated arrival time of April 6, 2025.
