On August 2, 2025, the luxury cruise liner 'Celebrity Constellation' experienced a significant power failure, leaving the vessel adrift for approximately two hours in the Ionian Sea, situated about 25 nautical miles east-southeast of Crotone. This unanticipated incident resulted in a loss of essential amenities onboard, with passengers facing a complete blackout, non-functional air conditioning, and toilets that could not flush. Dining arrangements were also affected, with guests receiving only cold food for their evening meal. Although partial power was restored, the ship continued to drift for a short duration before gradually resuming its voyage at a reduced speed. The 'Celebrity Constellation' had embarked on an 11-night, one-way cruise from Ravenna to Rome on July 28. The incident occurred on a day initially planned to be spent at sea while en route to Messina, where the ship was scheduled to dock on August 3 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
