Main Engine Malfunction Affects B Gas Margrethe Near Dungeness

Jun 28, 2019 21:37

On June 27, around 1 p.m., the vessel B Gas Margrethe encountered a significant issue with its main engine injection pump while navigating approximately 5.5 miles off Dungeness Point. The ship, which was transporting cargo from Tees to Port Jerome with a crew of 16 members onboard, was located at coordinates 50Β°56'24N, 001Β°07'15E during the incident. In response to the engine fault, the crew managed to maneuver the B Gas Margrethe to St. Mary's Bay, albeit at a reduced speed, where it anchored safely at Dungeness Roads East Anchorage. Marine engineers promptly began diagnosing the issue, which involved dismantling cylinder No.6 to inspect the condition of the piston rings. They estimated that the repair process would take approximately 12 hours. By 9 a.m. on June 28, repairs were successfully completed, enabling the vessel to continue its journey. The B Gas Margrethe is expected to reach its destination in Port Jerome by 10 p.m. on the same day.
