On June 25, 2021, a distressing incident unfolded when the Port Authority of Kalamata received an urgent call regarding a 45-year-old crew member aboard the 'Chemical Voyager'. This vessel was navigating through waters approximately 70 nautical miles southwest of Pylos as it traveled from Rotterdam to Gebze, with an estimated time of arrival on June 27. The situation was critical, and an Air Force helicopter swiftly mobilized to airlift the crew member, who was subsequently flown to Kalamata military airport. Once there, he was met by an ambulance and transported to Kalamata General Hospital. Sadly, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
