Disabled Bulk Carrier 'Tamarack' Navigates Bosphorus for Repairs

Mar 12, 2020 12:40

The bulk carrier 'Tamarack' successfully received permission for transit through the Canakkale Strait, making its eastbound passage on March 9. Currently, it awaits the necessary transit passage approval from the Istanbul Strait authority, which will only be granted during daylight hours, under favorable weather conditions, and when currents are manageable. Additionally, the transit will require assistance from Coastal Safety tugs and supervision by a pilot. On March 12, the 'Tamarack' was towed by the 'RR Spinola' and 'Kurtarma 8' (IMO: 9598610), with the 'Kurtarma 5' (IMO: 9463164) providing support at the stern. The estimated time of arrival (ETA) at its destination, D'Bugskiy, has been pushed back to March 15. After undergoing significant challenges, the vessel entered a shipyard in Constantza on April 3 for permanent repairs, which were finalized by June 15. Following satisfactory performance tests completed under the watchful eyes of Class surveyors, the classification society and flag state authority issued a new set of trading certificates. After completing all required formalities, the vessel was granted clearance by the Harbour Master to depart. The 'Tamarack' then set sail for Novorossiysk, where it arrived on June 18.
