The vessel, which had just arrived from Southampton, lost all nine of its mooring wires, resulting in its stern repeatedly slamming against the quay. This violent motion caused a significant gash measuring 30 centimeters along the starboard side of the ship, in addition to causing damage to the quay itself. Tugs battled for several hours to securely maneuver the 'Columbia Highway' back to her berth.
