Coast Guard Conducts Medical Evacuation Near Sabine, Texas
In a medical emergency on January 22, 2018, the U.S. Coast Guard successfully evacuated a crewmember from the 'Corcovado LNG' tanker, located approximately 20 miles south of Sabine, Texas. The incident was reported by the vessel's captain, who reached out to Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston after a 24-year-old sailor experienced severe seizures on board. Following the report, the watchstanders quickly consulted the duty flight surgeon, who deemed it necessary to carry out an emergency medevac. A skilled aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Houston deployed an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter to the scene. They hoisted the distressed mariner aboard and safely transported him to medical personnel at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. Upon arrival, he was reported to be in stable condition. At the time of the operation, the weather conditions featured 12-mph winds and 2-foot seas, which the aircrew navigated skillfully to ensure a timely evacuation.
