On the morning of September 9, 2015, a serious incident occurred aboard the cruise ship 'Corinthian' while it was navigating towards the port of Harlingen. A female crew member suffered a fractured arm, necessitating immediate medical attention. To expedite her transfer to a medical facility, lifeboats from Terschelling and Harlingen were swiftly deployed. The 'Wiecher' lifeboat played a crucial role in this emergency by transporting medical personnel directly to the scene, ensuring that the injured woman received prompt care. Grand Circle Cruise Line Expands Fleet with Acquisition of the Corinthian
In a significant move within the cruise industry, Grand Circle Cruise Line has officially acquired the 98-passenger vessel Corinthian from Travel Dynamics for an undisclosed sum. As stated by Grand Circle's CEO Vince Cook, this vessel, which is currently operated in the pristine waters of Antarctica, has been chartered by Grand Circle over the past year. Looking ahead to 2015, Grand Circle has exciting plans to enhance the Corinthian’s operations by introducing three new small-ship itineraries. Although Travel Dynamics will maintain operational control of the Corinthian through the entirety of 2014, Grand Circle is set to take over once the ship returns to the Antarctic region this coming fall. Moreover, both companies have forged a long-term partnership wherein Grand Circle will facilitate small-ship itineraries aboard the Corinthian and additional small vessels to support Travel Dynamics' educational programming.
Orion Expedition Cruises to Bid Farewell to Orion II
Orion Expedition Cruises has announced that the ORION II will be leaving its fleet this November, bringing an end to its brief but noteworthy association with the cruise line. The ORION II made its debut in Singapore last August, marking Orion Expedition Cruises' entrance into the vibrant Southeast Asian cruise market, as reported by TTG Asia e-Daily on August 31, 2011. According to Sarina Bratton, the founder and managing director of Orion Expedition Cruises, the decision to part ways with the vessel comes as a result of dissatisfaction with certain performance metrics. Despite this change, the ORION II is set to complete its scheduled voyages to popular destinations including Borneo, the Russian Far East, Japan, Vietnam, and China. The vessel will be returned to its owner, Travel Dynamics International, in November. In an effort to maintain service in the region, Orion Expedition Cruises will redirect its remaining vessel, Orion, to take on the Southeast Asia itineraries starting in 2013. Meanwhile, plans are already underway to search for a replacement for ORION II.
