The Supreme Court Commercial Division in the Commonwealth of the Bahamas has announced the official notice of sale for the renowned cruise ship, 'Crystal Serenity'. Interested bidders are currently able to inspect the vessel, with bids due by June 7, accompanied by a required deposit of 10 percent. According to the published notice, the successful bidder will be notified by June 14 and will have a seven-day period to finalize the purchase, taking possession of the vessel on an 'as is, where is' basis. Since January 2022, when the cruise line halted operations amid the financial turmoil of its parent company, Genting Hong Kong, the 'Crystal Serenity' has remained docked in Freeport, Bahamas. Management responsibilities for the ship have been transferred to V.Ships following its arrest initiated by banks that hold mortgages on the vessel and other creditors. These banks are poised to influence the auction's results, potentially seizing control of the ship if they find the bids unsatisfactory or could request the court to dismiss the bids. Meanwhile, in Florida, administrators managing the company's liquidation have noted that over 30,000 creditors have filed claims, including the fuel supplier that initiated the vessel's arrest due to unpaid invoices, various suppliers, former crew members, passengers with reservations, and travel agents due for commissions. Additionally, the Federal Maritime Commission has established a system to reimburse passengers protected by the cruise line's bond. The estimated scrap value of the 'Crystal Serenity' stands at approximately $22.2 million, with its trading value assessed at $87.4 million.

On February 5, the 'Crystal Serenity' found itself in hot water as Bahamian authorities arrested the cruise ship, which had diverted to the Bahamas in an attempt to evade custody in the United States. This move came in response to outstanding warrants related to unpaid fuel bills. The vessel, which had previously cut short its expedition at the end of January, initially aimed for Aruba but was denied docking privileges there. After rerouting to Bimini, Bahamas, passengers were safely transported to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The cruise line's parent company, Genting Hong Kong, continues to face significant challenges stemming from the pandemic's impact on its cruise and shipping operations. As of February 7, the Crystal Serenity was secured in position 26 31 26 N, 078 48 29 W, located approximately 1.4 nautical miles from the Freeport Anchorage.

On January 29, 2022, the luxury cruise liner 'Crystal Serenity' faced a significant setback when it was refused entry to Aruba, where it was set to disembark passengers during its world cruise. The vessel, which embarked on its grand voyage on January 17, 2022, was intended to navigate over 80 ports within a span of four months. However, following the bankruptcy of its owner, Genting, Crystal Cruises was forced to terminate this ambitious journey shortly after departure. Prior to its scheduled docking, Crystal had engaged in discussions with Aruban authorities regarding the ship's financial status and any potential liens. Unfortunately, these negotiations were insufficient, as local officials informed the cruise line late on January 28 at 4:30 p.m. that 'Crystal Serenity' would not be allowed to dock. As a result, the ship adjusted its course to mimic that of 'Crystal Symphony,' heading towards Bimini instead. Passengers on board 'Crystal Serenity' will disembark in Bimini and will subsequently take a ferry to Fort Lauderdale, encountering yet another twist in what was meant to be an extraordinary cruise experience.
