The ship, which was traveling from St. Petersburg, Russia, was forced to make urgent communication with the Canary Islands Coastguard, due to a crew member in desperate need of medical care. In response, the Coastguard swiftly coordinated with local sea rescue services to deploy a helicopter for the critical evacuation. Simultaneously, the captain was directed to steer the vessel towards Gran Canaria. The helicopter arrived and performed the medevac, successfully hoisting the injured crew member and landing at the university hospital in Las Palmas at 1:15 a.m. on December 1.
